Having a Hangover Free Day After

Hangovers are usually the price you pay the day after that make you vow never to drink again, but right now you want a cure for your hangover and here it is

Sleep

The bright light is doing your head in and you are not thanking God it is Friday anymore. You have a hangover. A hangover is a form of sleep deprivation and drinking interferes with brain activity during sleep, so if you can go back and sleep.

Sleep as much as possible so that your body gets time to regulate itself and get back on its normal clock. A hangover can feel much like you have been up for far too long, which you probably did if you only came home at 3 in the morning. So get some sleep.

Eat

Many people like to eat before they go and drink but, forget to eat when they are drinking. Not eating lowers your blood sugar, so even if you had a meal before you started drinking, continue to eat.

Snack as you drink so that you gently nudge sugar levels back to normal. Have some breakfast and eat or drink something with vitamin B, magnesium, zinc or an anti-inflammatory. These foods and drinks will help you through a hangover.

Eat something now.

Drink

A good idea at the time and you probably had a lot of fun but now your blood pressure is up, your heart is beating faster than normal and you have woken up dry-mouthed. This is a very common feeling of having a hangover. It means you’re dehydrated. Drink something and make that a glass of water.

Water will help you drink less alcohol and later decrease dehydration. If your hangover includes diarrhea, sweating, or vomiting, you may be even more dehydrated. So, even if nausea can make it difficult to get anything down, even just a few sips of water might help. So drink something, none-alcoholic!

Also, when you drink alcohol next time, remember to add water between drinks containing alcohol.

Avoid

Avoiding drinking dark colored alcoholic liquors such as whiskey, red wine, and tequila as they contain not only ethanol but also another compound called methanol.  Your enzymes process ethanol and methanol, but methanol is especially toxic and may cause a worse hangover.

Cocktails too have high alcohol content but are easier to drink in a short space of time, as cocktails mask the taste with flavors and some mixers. So, drink them slowly and eat something between. Those nuts in the bowl for instance or ask for some water to drink in between.

If you are a light or moderate drinker you are more vulnerable to getting a hangover than a heavy drinker but, NO, this is not an invitation to drink more.

The best way to avoid a hangover is to drink less.
